How to Grow Capsicum

How to Grow Capsicum? Capsicums are a popular vegetable to grow in warm climates since they produce a crop quickly, don’t require any extra care, and come in a wide variety of colours. Most kinds begin green and mature to red, purple, black, yellow, or orange.

How to Grow Capsicum?

Grow Capsicum

1. Prepare

Growing capsicums need a lot of suns, as well as high temperatures. They are frost-tender, so don’t put them outside until November if you live in a cold climate. It’s not too late because they only require three months to grow. Seeds are best grown under glass since they require high temperatures to germinate. Sow in trays in the spring and transfer into the garden when the plant is at least 5cm tall and the soil has warmed.

2. Plant to Grow Capsicum

A solid foundation is essential for garden success, just as it is for building a house. The better the soil, the better the growth of your plants. Capsicums require rich, healthy soil to thrive. If you’re starting with an established garden bed, add organic matter to the soil, such as sheep pellets and compost. Then top with a layer of Vegetable Mix. Fill pots and containers with Vegetable Mix before planting. Capsicums will thrive in containers if the soil is at least 25 cm deep. Planting should be done early in the morning or late in the day to avoid direct exposure to the scorching sun.

Planting in Garden Beds:

The variety you select to grow influences how far apart you should place the seedlings, however, 50cm tends to work well for most types.

  1. Allow seedlings to drain after soaking in a bucket of Organic Seaweed Plant Tonic. This will help to prevent transplant shock and will provide a healthy boost to your plant.
  2. Cover the planting space with a layer of Vegetable Mix.
  3. Dig a hole that is double the depth and width of your plant’s root ball.
  4. Gently loosen your plant’s root ball and place it in the centre of the hole.
  5. Fill in the gaps with Vegetable Mix.
  6. Gently press soil around the plant’s base.
  7. Water your plant thoroughly and on a regular basis.

Planting in Pots and Containers:

  1. Allow seedlings to drain after soaking in a bucket of Organic Seaweed Plant Tonic. This will help to prevent transplant shock and will provide a healthy boost to your plant.
  2. Fill your container halfway with Vegetable Mix.
  3. Gently loosen your plant’s root ball and place it in the container.
  4. Fill your container up to 3cm from the top with Vegetable Mix.
  5. To settle the mixture, gently tap the container on the ground.
  6. Gently press soil around the plant’s base.
  7. Water your plant thoroughly.

3. Nourish

Plants will feed you if you feed them. Because plants absorb nutrients from the soil as they grow, replenishing the nutrients guarantees that your plants reach their greatest potential. Choose a fertiliser that has been particularly formulated for your crop, such as Vegetable Food. Fertilize capsicums in pots and containers using NovaTec® Premium fertiliser. Throughout the growing season, keep the soil moist. Apply a dosage of Organic Seaweed Plant Tonic to your capsicums on a regular basis to give them a boost. Capsicums that are well-watered and well-nourished have a better chance of resisting insect pests and diseases.

4. Harvesting

Capsicums change colour and flavour as they age, so they can be picked for the desired flavour and consumed cooked or raw. When the capsicums are ready, remove them from the plants. Pulling them from the vine causes them to rip and they won’t last as long without the stem.
